Bromley Branch News

Keeing you updated with the latest Bromley CAMRA Branch news.

Bromley CAMRA and the coronavirus. Update March 17.

On March 16, the government issued guidelines to the population which include the avoidance of unnecessary travel, and visits to pubs.   We have accordingly cancelled our planned social to Maidstone on Saturday March 21st since it would have contravened both of these guidelines.   We have no further socials planned for March – just a committee meeting at the month end, which will now not be a physical meeting.

Although our calendar for April and May has already been prepared (and published in What’s Brewing),  I am refraining from publishing it on this site in the hope that things become clearer in the next week or so.  Although not definite, there is a fair chance that all our socials for this period will be cancelled.

Other consequences in the borough that we are aware of are the cancellation of both the Greyhound (Keston) Easter beer festival, and Orpington Liberal Club’s April beer festival.  Bromley CAMRA had intended to support both of these in the form of branch social events.

In the addition, the Real Ale Way in Hayes will temporarily close as a pub this weekend, but will instead introduce a takeaway service.    Their facebook site has more details of hours of operation etc.

All CAMRA Festivals taking place before the end of June have been cancelled nationally.

This unfortunately affects the May festival held by our neighbours in Bexley CAMRA, and also the SE London CAMRA festival at Kidbrooke.   Our own festival in July is under review, but is not cancelled at this stage.

That said, the government haven’t (yet) actually instructed pubs to close.

If anyone has further news about impacts to drinkers (not just real ale) within the borough of Bromley, please let me know by emailing

I’ll then keep the news updated as best I can.
