Afternoon social in Chislehurst

We begin at the The Ramblers Rest at 2pm. This attractively situated pub is less than 10 minutes walk from Chislehurst Station but the walk is sharply uphill. The walk can be avoided by catching the 162 (Beckenham Junction to Eltham), 269 (Bromley North to Bexleyheath) or R7 (Five Bells to Chislehurst) bus. In all cases alight at Susan Wood. The first two routes mentioned can be caught in Central Bromley.
We continue to the historic Imperial Arms (3pm).

The Brewery Tap for the Southey Brewery is a small and cosy bar, close to Penge High Street but rather hidden away. The pub is about 10 minutes walk from Penge East or Penge West stations. Alternatively, bus routes 176, 197, 227 and 354 all pass close to the pub – alight at High/Street/Maple Road. Usually two cask ales from the brewery are available, alongside a larger range of keg beers. Bromley CAMRA members who are not on the committee are always welcome to attend committee meetings. Non-committee members planning to attend a meeting may request the Secretary (secretary@bromley.camra.org.uk) to prepare and print a pack of relevant committee papers to be made available at the meeting.

Bromley CAMRA’s 2025 Pub of the Year competition has again been won by one of our newest pubs – The Cockpit. The Cockpit is Chislehurst’s first micropub, and opened its doors for the first time in late December 2020. A range of at at least 5 non-mainstream real ales are normally available, served from a cold room at the rear of the pub. The presentation of the winner’s award will be made during the evening, so a good turn out of our members would be welcome. From Central Bromley, use buses 162 (Beckenham Junction to Eltham), 269 (Bromley North to Bexleyheath) or the new Superloop SL3 service (Bromley North to Thamesmead). All these routes can be caught in Central Bromley and also pass near Bickley and Chislehurst stations. From other parts of the borough routes 61, 160, 161 or 273 can be used. The Easter weekend is marked by this festival of seasonal cask ales and ciders. The club plan to have 20 cask beers, 8 draught ciders and 2 keg beers available. Bromley CAMRA are having a social at the first night (Thursday) of the festival, which will be a preview night with access limited to OLC and CAMRA members only. Doors open at 18.00. Don’t forget your CAMRA membership card as it is required for entry. We anticipate presenting the club with the Bromley CAMRA “Club of the Year” award for 2025 during the course of the evening. The festival proper then opens at noon on the Friday and Saturday, closing at 11pm on both days. It then continues with an afternoon session on the Sunday from noon to 5pm, and concludes with an Easter Monday session starting at noon. Visitors who are not members of the OLC or CAMRA [.....]

This meeting will be held in the Star & Garter function room. The pub – reopened in November 2016 after having been closed for more than two years – is close to the Market Square in the centre of Bromley, which is a few minutes walk from either Bromley North or Bromley South stations. Several bus routes also pass close to the pub. It has been branch Pub of the Year on multiple occasions. Bromley CAMRA members who are not on the committee are always welcome to attend committee meetings. The London spring cider festival returns again this year on Saturday April 26th with a fine selection of traditional ciders and perries from small producers around the country and also including a number from London cider makers. This new venue is a short (about 400 yards) walk from Elephant & Castle station, which can be reached by direct trains from Bromley South and other stations on the Thameslink line through the borough. An alternative route would be to travel to London Bridge and then use the tube to get to Elephant and Castle. Doors open at noon, and the festival will remain open until 9pm unless all the drink is sold out earlier. Click here to see the festival poster (a PDF will open) The venue website may also be of use.

One Inn the Wood was Bromley’s first micropub, having opened in 2014 on a site previously occupied by a wine bar. It has won an array of CAMRA awards, including Greater London CAMRA Pub of the Year in 2015. The presentation of this year’s runner-up award will be made during the evening, so a good turn out of our members would be welcome. The pub is close to Petts Wood railway station, and can also be reached by the 208 bus from Central Bromley or Orpington. The 273, R2, R3 and R7 routes also pass close by.
