August 4 Our second post-lockdown social takes us to the Real Ale Way in Hayes for a lunchtime social. This family-owned micropub opened in July 2018, and offers a most welcome new choice for local drinkers and rail commuters alike. The pub overlooks the entrance to Hayes railway station,and is served by numerous bus routes. Up to 9 real ales are served on gravity from a cold room to the rear of the bar. The pub was a joint runner-up on the last occasion that we were able have a “Pub of the Year”competition.

A rare Saturday evening social for Bromley CAMRA at this landmark pub. We have reserved tables in case the pub is busy.The pub – which faces Beckenham War Memorial – can be reached using one of several buses that pass along Beckenham High Street, including routes 54, 227, 354 and 367. Alight at Beckenham War Memorial. Alternatively Beckenham Junction railway station is about ten minutes walk away.

One in the Wood was Bromley’s first micropub, having opened in 2014 on a site previously occupied by a wine bar. It has since won an array of CAMRA awards, including Greater London CAMRA Pub of the Year in 2015. The pub was a joint runner-up on the last occasion that we were able have a “Pub of the Year” competition. The pub is close to Petts Wood railway station, and can also be reached by the 208 bus from Central Bromley or Orpington. The 273, R2, R3 and R7routes also pass close by. In all cases, alight at Petts Wood Station.

The Orpington Liberal Club is another venue which stayed open throughout lockdown, providing a welcome takeaway service for cask ale lovers. The club has won an array of CAMRA awards overthe pas decade, and has three times been a finalist in CAMRA’s National Club of the Year contest. The club is a few minutes walk from Orpington station, and is situated directly opposite the entrance to the Tesco Extra car park. Several bus routes pass close by, including the 208 and358. Don’t forget your CAMRA membership card as it is required for entry.

The annual (Covid notwithstanding) endurance test around the Crystal Palace triangle, which is organised as a joint event with the CAMRA branches from SE London and from Croydon & Sutton.But you are welcome to join for either all of the route or just a small part!The first pub – the Douglas Fir – opened in November 2016 and is located between Crystal Palace and Anerley rail/London Overground stations. Bus travellers should use routes 157, 249, 358 or 432 and alight at Thicket Road / Madeline Road.
