Committee meeting at The Imperial Arms (Chislehurst)

Bromley CAMRA members who are not on the committee are always welcome to attend committee meetings. Non-committee members planning to attend a meeting may request the Secretary (secretary@bromley.camra.org.uk) to prepare and print a pack of relevant committee papers to be made available at the meeting.
The “Impi” is an attractively situated pub, less than 10 minutes walk from Chislehurst Station but the walk being sharply uphill. The walk can be avoided by catching the 162 (Beckenham Junction to Eltham), 269 (Bromley North to Bexleyheath) or R7 (Five Bells to Chislehurst) bus. In all cases alight at Susan Wood. The first two routes mentioned can be caught in Central Bromley

This pub is only a few yards away from the Jolly Woodman where some members may be found prior to the meeting,If you are coming here directly, Beckenham Junction railway station is 15 minutes walk away, so the bus may be a better bet. From Central Bromley use the high-frequency 227 or the 367 and alight at Westgate Road, or the 162 and alight at Chancery Lane. This social provides an opportunity to visit the attractive village of Farnborough, together with its two excellent pubs.We begin at The Change of Horses, which reopened in December 2019 following a lengthy closure for extensive refurbishment. Amongst other changes, the big screens for TV Sport are now gone as the pub moves upmarket. Cask ales from the three handpumps will normally include a beer from Tonbridge brewery. The pub is conveniently served by the high frequency 358 bus route (Crystal Palace to Orpington via Beckenham and Bromley). Alight at Farnborough High St/Church Rd. Many readers of the diary will be aware of the large number of micropubs which have opened in the Bexley CAMRA area over the last five years or so. We have noticed that many of them are situated close to bus routes – particularly the high-frequency 51 route (which runs from Orpington to Woolwich), so we have used that fact to plan this social.If you live in Central Bromley or in the west of the borough, your best plan to get to the first pub will be to get bus 269 (another high-frequency route) from Bromley North via Bickley and Chislehurst to Sidcup and alight at Sidcup Station. A walk of no more than ten minutes is needed from there. This is our most important meeting of the year and all Bromley CAMRA members are encouraged to attend, especially with several committee vacancies up for grabs this year. The club bar will be open before the meeting, please try to arrive in sufficient time to enable the meeting to start promptly at 15:00The club is a few minutes walk from Orpington station, directly opposite the entrance to the Tesco Extra car park. Several bus routes pass close by, including the 208 and 358. On the first day of Spring, what better way to take advantage than with a day trip to the county town of Kent, which also happens to be its best real ale town (some may argue!). This visit concentrates on its four best drinking venues (even more may argue) but all of them are relatively near Maidstone East station so only a moderate amount of walking is involved. In addition to the four pubs on the itinerary, there is a large Wetherspoons next to the station (and another in the town centre) with the normal food range.The plan is to meet at Bromley South station in order to catch the 11.12 train to Maidstone. The first pub (arrive 12.15) is the Rifle Volunteers, 28 Wyatt St. ME14 1EU . This pub is one of only two Goachers tied houses and has four handpumps dispensing beers from the brewery. Older [.....]

This superb pub is in one of the borough’s more rural locations and is best reached by bus. Get the 146 from Bromley North/South or the R8 from Orpington station and alight at the terminus in Downe Village. But the services are infrequent so check the timetable.
