Evening Social in Bromley Common, starting at the Two Doves

This social provides an opportunity to visit Bromley’s newest cask ale venue – the Hit or Miss (opened October 2022) as well as the relatively recently opened Bitter End bar. But it begins at a much more traditional venue – the Two Doves. From there the itinerary is as follows :-
20:40. The Hit or Miss
22:00. The Bitter End Bar
The Two Doves can be reached on the 320 bus (Catford Bridge to Biggin Hill Valley, via Central Bromley), and alight at the Oakley Road/The Limes stop. If you decide to join us at the Hit or Miss, you can use routes 61, 208, 261, 320 or 358, in all cases alighting at Southlands Road.

A chance to visit three micropub/bars, none of which were in existence ten years ago. The evening begins at 7pm at One Inn The Wood. This pub is close to Petts Wood railway station, and can also be reached by the 208 bus from Central Bromley or Orpington. The 273, R2, R3 and R7 routes also pass close by. In all cases, alight at Petts Wood Station. One in the Wood was Bromley’s first micropub having opened in 2014 on a site previously occupied by a wine bar. It has won an array of CAMRA awards, including Greater London CAMRA Pub of the Year in 2015. It is now under new management. From there we continue by bus 208 to the Hit or Miss. This new venue opened its doors for the first time on in October 2022, in premises which were previously occupied by a computer repair and sales [.....]

What better way to get the excesses of Xmas out of the system than by joining our traditional brisk walk between some of the best pubs in Bromley North! Our event starts at the Crown and Anchor at 1.30pm. The pub is located a short walk away from Bromley North Station/bus terminal and the Market Square, and usually has beers from Bexley brewery available. We then intend to the pubs shown below, although we have noted instances in the past where pubs have changed their opening hours at short notice around Christmas. But with so many pubs in the vicinity, no-one needs to go thirsty. 2.20pm. Anglesey Arms 3.10pm. Red Lion

Yes it’s that time of year again when we vote for those pubs which should be included in the 2025 (yes 2025!) guide. This year the meeting will be held in the function room room at the Orpington Liberal Club which offers us the privacy we need. Please arrive by 2.15pm in readiness for a prompt 2.30pm start. All members of Bromley CAMRA are encouraged to attend and vote, but in order to vote you will need to show your current membership card. Please send any inquiries about this event to gbg@bromley.camra.org.uk The club is a few minutes walk from Orpington station, directly opposite the entrance to the Tesco Extra car park. This social offers a chance to visit three varied venues in Penge, all of which serve cask ale. The longest visit will be to the Southey Brewery Tap, which now opens every day of the week. The social starts at the Goldsmiths Arms which can be reached using bus routes 75, 176, 227, 356 or 358 – alight at Penge/Pawleyne Arms. Alternatively, Beckenham Road tramlink stop is about 15 minutes walk away, whilst Penge East and Kent House railway stations are a similar distance. The social continues to the nearby Southey Brewery Tap (arrive 19:50) before finishing at the Moon and Stars (21:30)

Many readers of the diary will be aware of the large number of micropubs which have opened in the Bexley CAMRA area over the last few years. We have noticed that many of them are situated close to bus routes, so we have used that fact to plan this social. The first pub is within a few yards of Bexleyheath station which unfortunately is not served by any direct trains from the Bromley branch area – a change at Lewisham or Nunhead is needed. Bus travel from Bromley will vary depending on your starting point, so the best bet is to use the TfL journey planner. Routes 422, B11 and B12 do pass very close to the pub – alight at Bexleyheath station. Returning to Bromley after this social involves a single bus journey using route 269. Once again we are able to take advantage of the Star & Garter function room. The pub – reopened in November 2016 after having been closed for more than two years – is close to the Market Square in the centre of Bromley, which is a few minutes walk from either Bromley North or Bromley South stations. Several bus routes also pass close to the pub. It has been branch Pub of the Year on multiple occasions. Bromley CAMRA members who are not on the committee are always welcome to attend committee meetings. Non-committee members planning to attend a meeting may request the Secretary (secretary@bromley.camra.org.uk) to prepare and print a pack of relevant committee papers to be made available at the meeting.
