Enjoy a healthy walk in the countryside and visit some excellent pubs en-route
Bromley CAMRA has identified a network of paths and tracks which link the rural pubs and clubs in Bromley all together (as well as walks to adjoining areas and their hostelries). We have published a series of brief guides for these walks, which range in distance from less than a mile to about 5 miles.
Each of the Bromley Pub Walk Guides briefly describes the route and terrain, lists the pubs/clubs that you can visit, and provides information about public transport.
Almost all of the pubs & clubs are accessible by public transport on at least 6 days of the week, so it’s really easy for drinkers and walkers to get to and from these excellent establishments, to get out into the fresh air, take some exercise and enjoy a drink or two.
Since the first route guides were published in 2019, additional routes have been added and most of the original guides have been updated. Update Spring 2025: All the routes are currently being checked by members of Bromley CAMRA; many have been updated.
Our February committee meeting at the Chancery gives us a chance to have a brief pre-meeting social at the nearby Jolly Woodman, starting at 18:30. Up to six cask ales – mainly mainstream – are normally available. Beckenham Junction railway station is 15 minutes walk away, so the bus may be a better bet. From Central Bromley use the the high-frequency 227 or the 367 and alight at Westgate Road, or the 162 and alight at Chancery Lane. From there we move on a few yards for the committee meeting itself at the Chancery. Bromley CAMRA members who are not on the committee are always welcome to attend committee meetings. Non-committee members planning to attend a meeting may request the Secretary (secretary@bromley.camra.org.uk) to prepare and print a pack of relevant committee papers to be made available at the meeting.
Our social begins at the Whyte Lyon – a well-maintained Shepherd Neame pub which has a stop nearby on the high-frequency 261 and 358 routes. Alight at Farnborough Common / PRU Hospital. Or use the 61, 336 or 353 routes and alight at Locksbottom/St Michael’s church. All of these routes except the 353 also pass Bromley South station. Note that children aged less than 14 are not allowed in the pub. Start time is 7:30pm. From there we have a short walk to the The Black Horse. This is a spacious Ember Inn with a large real ale choice. As at the time of writing a “Cask Club” operates every Monday and Thursday whereby there is a £1/pint and 50p/half-pint discount on pints of cask ale. Arrival time here is 8:45pm.
Venue : Orpington Liberal Club, 7 Station Road, Orpington BR6 0RZ. All members of the Bromley CAMRA branch are encouraged to attend the branch Annual General Meeting, during which we will review what has happened over the last year, and then set about electing the Branch Committee to take us through the 2026-2027 Committee year. The club is a few minutes walk from Orpington station, directly opposite the entrance to the Tesco Extra car park. Several bus routes pass close by, including the 208 and 358. Don’t forget your CAMRA membership card as it is required for entry. The club accepts CARD PAYMENTS only.
