Welcome to Bromley CAMRA

Campaigning for Real Ale drinkers in Bromley Borough.

CAMRA LocAle Scheme

The LocAle scheme encourages pubs to reliably stock and sell at least one real ale that is produced locally - in our case, within 30 miles by shortest road distance from the pub. To qualify as LocAle in our area, the brewery at which the beer is produced must have an annual output of less than 20,000 hectolitres, to encourage the stocking of beers from micro-breweries.

Everyone benefits from local pubs adding locally-brewed real ale to their portfolio:

  • Pubs can increase custom.
  • Consumers can enjoy greater beer choice and diversity.
  • Local brewers gain from increased sales.
  • The local economy benefits from greater spending locally.
  • The environment benefits from fewer ‘beer miles' resulting in less road congestion and pollution.

To join the scheme, either a potentially qualifying Bromley pub licensee approaches a Branch Member or a Branch area representative approaches a likely pub licensee to see if he/she is interested in joining the scheme. Accreditation is at the sole discretion of the local CAMRA Branch. Please Contact Us for Information.

Currently there are over 80 breweries whose real ale products can be offered in our pubs, though not all are available in all the pubs as it depends upon the pub-to-brewery distance being up to a maximum of 30 miles. Depending on where they are in the borough, pubs can currently expect to enjoy beer choice from over 80 different breweries that reside in Berkshire, Essex, Greater London, Kent, Surrey, and East Sussex.
